Your Views: Hateful letter was contrary to Christianity

POSTED: December 6, 2012 1:00 a.m.

I am an avid reader of The Times and usually enjoy reading it daily. However, I am appalled at the letter published Saturday, written by Lamar Wilbanks. He professes to be such a devout Christian and yet had written such hateful, toxic bigotry, which is totally counter to the teachings of Jesus.

Hatred is not a Christian value, and his nasty letter reflects poorly not only on him, but also on your newspaper and our community and Christianity itself. I am disappointed to see this type of mindless vitriol given a public forum by The Times.

I believe in freedom of speech and freedom of the press, but I hope in the future you will be a little more judicious about what you choose to print.
