Buford postpones vote to annex, rezone property

POSTED: December 4, 2012 10:58 p.m.

The Buford City Commission on Monday postponed a decision on whether to annex and rezone 82.4 acres in Hall County.

Officials had to delay the action because not enough time had passed between the public advertising of the action and Monday’s planned vote. A vote now is expected Dec. 19 or later.

The parcel runs adjacent to Interstate 985 and is accessible by Golden Parkway in Buford.

Peoples Bank & Trust, the holder of the property, requested the residential parcel be rezoned for light industry and be annexed into the city, moves the bank officials feel will help sell the property.

According to Peoples Bank & Trust Executive Vice President Ted Williams, there is no current prospective buyer for the parcel and the rezoning would be consistent with adjacent property.

Several homeowners from a Flowery Branch subdivision, Lexington Woods, have voiced concerns with the rezoning request, fearing property values would be affected and that Frazer Road would be used as a cut-through for vehicles avoiding the intersection of Lanier Islands Parkway and Atlanta Highway.
