A portion of Thompson Road in Dawson County will be closed for two months beginning Thursday so its intersection with Ga. 53 can be rebuilt.
The work will close about 1,000 feet of the roadway, beginning at Ga. 53, according to a news release from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The intersection will be reworked so that Thompson and Ga. 53 intersect at the same grade, so motorists can better see oncoming traffic. There will also be new turning lanes from Ga. 53 onto Thompson Road. Detour signs will direct traffic from Ga. 53 to Hugh Stowers Road to Thompson Road.
The $2.7 million project has a completion date of June 30, and the contractor is Baldwin Paving Co. of Marietta.
