Ishmael Hollis had his first double-double as a Saint and fellow junior transfer Chris Tanzy broke a school record in just his second game of action Saturday afternoon as the North Georgia College & State University men’s basketball team was able to hold off Newberry College in overtime, 106-99, in the championship game of the Mom Reeves Memorial Tournament in Newberry, S.C.

Hollis led the Saints (2-0) in both scoring and rebounding for the second game in a row, scoring 28 points and grabbing 14 rebounds against the Wolves (1-1). His outing included a 10 for 20 effort from the field and a team-high six three-pointers.

Tanzy set the school record for most assists in a single game as he set up 12 scores to go along with six points of his own.

The Saints’ 106 points scored against the Wolves was the most in a single game for North Georgia since scoring 105 in a win last season over Mars Hill College on Nov. 12, 2011.

In total, five players finished with double-digit point outings for North Georgia led by Hollis’ game-high 28 points. Scott Windom was the Saints’ next leading scorer with 17 points while Lamar Richardson and Taylor Metzger both added 15. JC Ward rounded out the double-digit scoring for the Saints with 11 points.

Richardson’s 15 points all came in the first half off five three-pointers while Ward just missed out again on a double-double with nine rebounds added to his 11 points. In Friday’s game, Ward came within two rebounds of recording the double-double.

As a team, the Saints finished the contest shooting 49.4 percent from the field, including a 47.4 percent effort from beyond the three-point arc.

Newberry shot 46.7 percent from the field and six players finished with double-digit points.

The three leading scorers for the Wolves were Mitch Riggs, Dondray Walker and Hawkins all with 17 points. Riggs and Walker led the team with four three-pointers each while Brunes Charles finished with a double-double performance off 14 points and 10 boards.

The two programs will continue their rivalry at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Dahlonega.
