1 man arrested, 2nd man sought in store theft

POSTED: November 9, 2012 11:59 p.m.

One man was arrested and a second suspect is being sought after a cash theft at a Gainesville store Friday that led to a manhunt, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a theft in progress just before 1 p.m. at the La Chiquita store on Hancock Avenue. They were told two male suspects had entered the store, where one reached behind the cash register and took a bank deposit bag full of cash while the clerk was away from the counter.

Deputies were joined by a K-9 police dog team and tracked the suspects to a nearby mobile home park. They arrested Deontae Lashon Lee, 19, and charged him with misdemeanor theft by taking. He was transported to the Hall County Jail, where he also is being held on an outstanding Clarke County arrest warrant.

No one was injured during the incident. The bank deposit bag, containing an undetermined amount of cash, was not recovered.
