Paving begins today to tie in newly built lanes on Ga. 347/Lanier Islands Parkway, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced Thursday.
The work will be done 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and dawn to dusk on the weekends and will continue into next week.
Drivers should expect minor delays at commercial driveways and intersections.
Traffic will be shifted onto the new lanes once paving is completed, and that will allow the existing lanes to be reworked.
The project involves widening 1.7 miles of the road from Interstate 985 to McEver Road to create a four-lane divided highway, including sidewalks.
The project is under contract with C.W. Matthews Contracting Inc. of Marietta for $11.6 million, and the completion date is set for Nov. 30, 2014.
