Second-grade teacher Jacquie Parker was awarded the second annual Clarity Award in honor of her outstanding achievements in the classroom. This award is voted on by the staff at Jones Elementary and is sponsored by Jones' Partner in Education, Clarity. Parker received a certificate of recognition and check for $500 from Clarity.

Piedmont College graduating senior Savannah Johnson of Cleveland has been named a "Most Outstanding Undergraduate Student in Chemistry" for Northeast Georgia by the American Chemical Society. The award is given out yearly to a Piedmont student and two University of Georgia students. Johnson was nominated by professor Sean Carrigan of Piedmont College. She received a certificate and cash award at a banquet held April 17 at the State Botanical Gardens in Athens. Johnson earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Piedmont and graduated May 3 with honors. During her time at Piedmont she was a member of several research internships. Johnson will attend Emory University this summer to pursue a doctorate in chemistry.

Ben Martin was named to the president's list for the spring semester at Clemson University in Clemson, S.C. To qualify for the president's list, students must have a semester grade point average of 4.0. Martin is the son of Mike and Abby Martin of Oakwood.

Stacy Charles Young II of Gainesville graduated May 10 from Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, N.C.

Jillian Wilms of Gainesville, Rebekah Gruver of Gainesville and Josh Fridge of Flowery Branch have all been awarded $1,000 Leadership Scholarships from Chick-fil-A for their work at the fast-food chain's local restaurants. Wilms plans to attend Georgia Tech, Gruver plans to attend Pensacola Christian College and Fridge plans to attend North Georgia College & State University.
