Resident safe as fire destroys Gainesville home

POSTED: November 7, 2012 9:08 p.m.

A Gainesville resident escaped unharmed as fire destroyed a home Wednesday afternoon on Juniper Court.

The Gainesville Fire Department responded about 4:40 p.m., Fire Chief Jerome Yarbrough said, to find the home 70 percent involved with flames.

The resident was at home but escaped without injury, Yarbrough said. The fire was controlled within about 20 minutes, he said, but the single-family home was a total loss.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
