Election day not without confusion for Hall County voters

Poll workers fielding questions from many residents

POSTED: November 6, 2012 11:53 a.m.

Election Day is a bit harried so far for Hall County’s election workers.

Many voters have questions about voting procedures or are just confused when they show up at precincts say poll workers.

“They don’t know they’re not registered or they find out they’re in the wrong precinct,” said Charlotte Sosebee, Hall’s elections director. “I don’t know how much more we can say it: Double-check, make sure you’re registered, and (voters) still don’t do it.”

Phone calls were pouring in at the county’s election office, which is in the new Hall County Government Center, 2875 Browns Bridge Road, Gainesville.

As of 10 a.m., 11,472 people had voted in Hall, Sosebee said.

Hall County has about 83,000 registered voters, with 23,882 of those having cast ballots during early voting, which ended Friday.

Activity varied early this rainy morning, with people waiting up to an hour to cast ballots at the county’s largest precinct, Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 6439 Spout Springs Road, Flowery Branch.

But just a couple of miles away, residents were able to scamper in and out of Davis Middle School, 4450 Hog Mountain Road, Flowery Branch, within five to 10 minutes.

Polls close at 7 tonight.
