Buford softball advances to championship game

The Buford High softball team earned a spot in the Class AAA state championship game with a 7-0 win against Central-Carroll on Friday at the South Commons Softball Complex in Columbus. With the win, the Lady Wolves face the winner of the Central-Carroll/Ringgold at noon today for the state title.

For the Lady Wolves (31-3), sophomore Bria Bush pitched her 18th complete game to earn the win from the pitching circle. She only allowed two hits with nine strikeouts on the night, keeping Buford in control in its quest for a sixth consecutive state championship.

“Bria Bush was excellent in the circle all night,” Buford coach Tony Wolfe said.

Tessa Daniels led Buford offensively with three hits, including two doubles and three RBIs. Niki Cook was 3 for 5 with two runs scored and three stolen bases.

Bekah Rude and Jordan Deep each chipped in a pair of hits for the Lady Wolves.

“Tessa had a really big game for us,” Wolfe added. “We had a lot of kids that played a good game.”

The championship game begins at noon. With a perfect 3-0 record so far in the finals, Buford only needs one win to win the title. The Central-Carroll/Ringgold winner will need to beat Buford twice to claim the championship.
