If you’ve been wondering about something in your community, Ask The Times is your place to get answers. The following questions were submitted by readers and answered through the efforts of our news staff.

What happened to one-stream recycling the county was considering?

Hall County piloted a one-stream recycling program, in which residents could recycle many types of materials without having to separate them, at the Flowery Branch and Sardis compactor sites earlier this year.

Following the pilot, the county decided to go with a plan that required sorting recyclables into three categories:

  • paper and cardboard
  • metal and plastic
  • glass

It’s not as simple as single-stream but also not as complicated as the system before it that required sorting by material and in some cases color, like with plastics and class.

New bins supporting the three streams of recycling were installed by the end of June.

Late last year The Times ran an article about a Dunkin’ Donuts to be built on Thompson Bridge Road at Green Street Circle. What ever happened to this?

Rusty Ligon, community development director for the city of Gainesville, said the owners were still considering a store on Thompson Bridge but also recently opened a store at the corner of Queen City and Jesse Jewell parkways in Gainesville.

A store at 3629 Mundy Mill Road in Oakwood opened before that.

“(The owners) typically closely monitor the impacts of any new store on their existing locations to try and prevent ‘cannibalizing’ the existing stores,” he said.

Ligon added that the owners indicated the Jesse Jewell store was performing above average for the Atlanta region.
Phone messages left with the owner were not returned Friday.
