Barrow brothers charged with murder in Fla.

POSTED: October 26, 2012 11:59 p.m.

Pensacola, Fla., authorities have now charged Barrow County twin brothers William and Christopher Cormier with homicide in Florida.

Circuit Judge Thomas Santurri signed warrants Thursday for the men, who are accused of killing former Pensacola News Journal reporter Sean Dugas, 30.

William Cormier now faces charges of homicide, and his brother Christopher was charged with homicide/accessory after the fact.

Both brothers also face armed robbery charges.

The brothers, who have been housed in the Barrow County Detention Center and Jackson County Jail, held on charges by the Winder Police Department, will be extradited to Pensacola at some point.

Prosecutors in Georgia are awaiting charging documents from Florida and have not dropped Georgia charges of murder and concealing a death, said Barrow County Chief Assistant District Attorney Deborah Wilbanks.

Investigators say the twins were Dugas’ house guests in Pensacola before they killed him on Aug. 27 and stole his belongs. Police believe Dugas was killed from blunt force trauma to the head, and that William Cormier drove to Walmart afterward to purchase material to conceal the body.

Georgia investigators unearthed Dugas’ plastic and concrete-encased body in the backyard of the twins’ fathers’ home in Winder after a weekslong search. A friend reported Dugas missing in early September after he missed a lunch meeting.
