The North Georgia College & State University women’s soccer team took down No. 22 Lander University 3-0 on Wednesday in Greenwood, S.C. Sophia Matonak, Caroline Wallace, and Kelly Penston scored the goals for the Saints. Mallory Sayre made two saves in the win.
LANDER MEN 1, NORTH GEORGIA 0: The Saints lost in Peach Belt Conference action on Wednesday in Greenwood, S.C.
The Saints are sixth in the conference with a 7-5-2 overall record including a 3-3-2 PBC mark while Lander, which is second in the Southeast Region and third in the conference, improves to 11-2-1 and 6-1-1 in the league.
The game progressed scoreless well into the second half of action before Lander’s Chris Hobbs gave the Bearcats the 1-0 lead off a penalty kick in the 74th minute.
CLAYTON STATE WOMEN 3, YOUNG HARRIS 0: Clayton State University scored three goals – two by Pearl Slattery – in the second half as the Lakers defeated Young Harris College in a Peach Belt Conference women’s soccer match on Wednesday in Morrow.
The Lakers improved to 10-6-2 overall and to 6-3-2 inside the league, while the Mountain Lions fell to 6-9 and 2-8.
Young Harris plays its final Peach Belt match Saturday when it visits Montevallo University in Montevallo, Ala.
CLAYTON STATE MEN 2, YOUNG HARRIS 1: Kevin Rodriguez’s goal in the 68th minute was the difference as Clayton State University rallied for a Peach Belt Conference men’s soccer match over Young Harris College Wednesday in Morrow.
The Lakers improved to 7-7-1 overall and to 3-5-1 in the league, while the Mountain Lions fell to 12-4-1 and 4-3-1.
The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Lewis Hilton scored his fifth goal of the season. Mouhamed Bechir sent a short pass into the middle of the box to Hilton, who shot at point-blank range.
