Deputy suffers minor arm injury in struggle with suspect

POSTED: October 22, 2012 11:26 p.m.

A Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputy suffered a minor arm injury when he struggled with a suspect Monday afternoon.

The deputy was investigating a suspicious person on Floyd Road in Gainesville, according to Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks, sheriff’s office spokesman. The deputy attempted to make an arrest for possession of cocaine, “and a struggle ensued,” Wilbanks said.

The deputy drove himself to the emergency room at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he was treated.

The subject escaped on foot, Wilbanks said. The sheriff’s office sent canine teams and additional deputies to the area but were unable to find the subject because of heavy foot traffic in the area, he said. The subject remains at large.
