  • Jaemor Farms' Stephanie Lewallen explains how to make peach butter.

During the summer peach season there are cobblers and pies galore.

But peaches are a wonderful addition to many dishes.

Stephanie Lewallen, who works at Jaemor Farms in Alto, said peach salsa is great on pork loin or chicken.

"I love to put it on a pork loin roast and when you are cooking it you just pour it, the salsa, all over it and let it bake in it," she said. "We've had a lot of people do that with chicken also."

At Jaemor there also condiments using peaches like hot sauces, chutneys, jams, jellies, syrup, cider, peach butter and pickled peaches, to name a few.

The Vidalia Onion and Georgia Peach Hot Sauce is another peach-inspired condiment made at Jaemor.

Lewallen said peaches give the hot sauce a little "sweet-fire."

"You've got the sweetness and then a little hot to it ... it's not extremely spicy with the Vidalia onions but there is a bite to it and it makes a good combination," she said.

And when you use Georgia-grown peaches, according to the Georgia Peach Commission, you get an even more superior flavor.

Marcia Crowley, who handles commodities promotion for the Georgia Peach Commission, said there are many interesting peach recipes out there.

"We get lots of requests for pickled peaches (recipes)," she said. "There are mini-peach cheesecakes, and you make those in a muffin tin. They are pretty cute."

Crowley also mentioned peach ice cream is popular.

But for a simple, cool condiment or addition to dinner, try Peach Salsa.

The recipe calls for peeled and chopped peaches, red bell pepper, cucumber, green onion and jalapeno pepper with a sauce made of honey, lime juice and cilantro.

All ingredients are simply chopped and mixed together. It is best to let the salsa sit for several hours to allow the flavors to blend.

Lewallen said peach salsa is great served as a dip with most chips or crackers.
