Buford football will forfeit its wins against Banks County and West Hall after the school self-reported the use of an inelgible player to the Georgia High School Association. 

The player, who was not named, was academically inelgible according to a statement released by Buford High School on Monday. According to the release, the student-athlete played the last two plays of the games against both West Hall and Banks County.

In a letter responding to Buford's report, GHSA executive director Ralph Swearngin thanked Buford athletic director Dexter Wood for his integrity, yet pointed out that "allowing an academically ineligible student to participate is a serious offense since it violates State Board of Education standards as well as GHSA by-laws," and ordered that both games be forfeited.

Buford's release stated that the player had been inadvertently left off a required GHSA eligibility form and did not have the academic credits needed to participate.

The forfeits leave the Wolves at 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the region, two games behind North Hall (6-1, 4-0). Buford has won 10 region titles in the last 11 years, but the Trojans are now in firm control of 7-AAA, having already defeated Dawson County and White County. North Hall needs to win two of its last three to clinch the championship and will face Buford in the regular season finale.

With the added wins, Banks County and West Hall are now 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the region, each in a five-way tie for second place with three weeks left in the regular season to determine the four playoff teams.

Friday's key games in 7-AAA include: North Hall at West Hall, Fannin County at Buford, White County at Dawson County and East Hall at Banks County.
