Rear-facing seats, forward-facing seats, booster seats — the world of making sure your kids are safe when riding in the car is not that simple.
Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County wants to make it easy, though, and held a free child safety seat check on Friday.
Law enforcement personnel and other volunteers worked to ensure seats were properly installed and appropriate for the child.
The safety agency has these tips:
- Infants: Keep babies in rear-facing seats as long as the seat allows, according to its instructions.
- Toddlers: Use a forward-facing seat until the child’s shoulders are above the top harness slot or ears are above the car seat.
- Children: Use a booster seat with a lap and shoulder seat belt until the child is 4 feet, 9 inches. Then use just the seat belt.
