Murrayville man charged after slow-speed chase

POSTED: October 18, 2012 11:59 p.m.

A Murrayville man was arrested Thursday afternoon after a brief chase along Ga. 60.

Demitri Atkins, 37, didn’t stop for Hall County sheriff’s deputies on Bark Camp Road in North Hall at about 2:47 p.m., sheriff’s spokesman Stephen Wilbanks said. Atkins continued onto Thompson Bridge Road, traveling into Lumpkin County where he eventually stopped voluntarily at a gas station just before Ga. 400, Wilbanks said.

Speeds only reached about 65 mph, he added.

Atkins was arrested at about 2:55 p.m. and charged with fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, driving while unlicensed, passing on a hillcrest, passing within 200 feet of oncoming traffic and two counts of failure to stop at a posted stop sign.

He was booked into the Hall County jail on two outstanding arrest warrants for probation violation, with the original charges of possession of marijuana and obstruction of officers, Wilbanks said.
