Your Views: Exit 24 on I-985 badly needs better design, signs for safety

POSTED: October 19, 2012 1:00 a.m.

I am writing to express my dismay over the poor design of the southbound exit at Interstate 985, Exit 24. Cars that try to merge into traffic on Jesse Jewell do not realize until too late that the two exit lanes merge into one before entering the road. This has led to multiple crashes as two cars try to pull into one lane.

One recent morning, I passed a stretcher being loaded into an ambulance, as once again, unfamiliar drivers met a predictable hazard.

I would like to suggest that the responsible agency take away the painted white line that eliminates one lane on the right, and post warning: hazardous exit signs. A redesign of this poorly thought-out exit should be implemented.
