Lakeview volleyball clinches state tourney spot

Lakeview defeated Providence Christian today in Monroe (25-18, 19-25, 26-24) to secure a state tournament berth as the No. 4 seed from Area 6-A.

The Lady Lions fell short in the semifinal round, losing to Prince Avenue 25-17, 19-25, 13-25.

Shelby Ross led Lakeview with 11 kills, 19 digs, 12 blocks, and five aces. Samantha Versteeg had 25 digs. Bailey Towles added 20 assists, 13 aces, five digs and two kills. Kaylee McClendon had 10 kills and nine blocks while Katie Gay had 10 kills and six aces. Lakeview, returning to the state tournament for the first time since 2008, travels to Holy Innocents’ on Thursday.

Lakeview’s Katie White was named Second Team All Area. For the regular season, White compiled 191 kills with a near .300 hitting percentage, recorded a 95 percent serve percentage with 35 aces, had over 200 digs, and returned nearly 350 serves with an 86 percent serve return percentage.
