Ninth District Opportunity offers heating help in Hall

POSTED: October 12, 2012 12:00 a.m.

Assistance with home heating bills is available starting Nov. 1 for low-income households with all residents 65 or older or residents homebound due to health reasons.

The Georgia Department of Human Services helps pay those costs for either gas or electric heating. A one-time payment is issued to the supplier on behalf of the eligible household. Households must be responsible for their home heating costs and eligibility is based on income for everyone in the household.

Those applying must present the most recent heating bill, Social Security cards for everyone in the home and verification for the age, citizenship and income received within the past 30 days for everyone in the home.

The program will open to the general public Dec. 3 depending on funds.

Those interested in applying should contact Ninth District Opportunity at 770-534-8826 after 8:30 a.m. on the date of the program they qualify for. Appointments will be scheduled until all funds are exhausted. More information can be found at www.ndo.org.
