Police investigate stabbing where shots reported fired

POSTED: September 27, 2012 11:59 p.m.

Gainesville police are investigating a Wednesday night stabbing and a report of shots fired, two incidents they believe are related.

Police received a 911 call about 9 p.m. from the 900 block of Lanier Avenue, off Thompson Bridge Road, stating a man was stabbed in the chest and shoulder, Cpl. Kevin Holbrook said.

As authorities responded to the stabbing, a separate 911 call reported shots fired in the same area.

“The case is not believed to be a random crime or random act of violence,” Holbrook said. “It is believed that all parties did know each other and were possibly in a dispute.”

Holbrook said there were no reported injuries from the multiple gunshots reported by witnesses.

The stabbing victim was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment and was later released. Police have determined the man was stabbed with a knife.

Investigators were on scene Thursday morning gathering evidence. The case is still under investigation, and there are no current suspects or arrests, Holbrook said.
