LCKC to host paddle board race and demo day Sept. 29

POSTED: September 18, 2012 10:44 p.m.

The Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club will be incorporating the first stand-up paddle board race and demo day for the club as part of the 2012 Baron and Brothers International Championship Race on September 29 at the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue on Clarks Bridge Road.

The event starts at 8 a.m. with dragon boat races to be followed by the traditional sprint canoe and kayak races of the BBI Championship. The new stand-up paddle board races will be incorporated into the schedule.

The SUP races will include a 200-meter sprint for children 12 and under and 13 to 17 years of age, and a 1.5 mile and 3 mile race for adults.

There will be a limited number of SUP boards to rent for the races. The proceeds from the SUP races will be used to support BBI Junior Olympic Programs at LCKC.

As part of the event, LCKC is teaming up with Team Radosta Fitness, GUSU Paddle Sports and The Outside World to host a free stand-up paddle demo day for the public. Stand-up paddling is standing on a giant surfboard and paddling the board with a long canoe paddle.

Participants will have the opportunity to try out over 20 different types of boards for all ages and skill levels, and the staff of Team Radosta Fitness and Outdoor World will be available for instruction on how to paddle and select the right boards.
