Jenny Bulley, a Washington and Lee University junior from Gainesville, completed a summer internship as part of the Shepherd Higher Education Consortium on Poverty.

Bulley, a economics major at W&L, spent the summer working for St. Anne’s Mission in Kalgatoh, Ariz.

She was one of 73 students from 14 colleges and universities who participated in the SHECP internships.

The Shepherd Consortium seeks to initiate and advance sustained education focused on poverty and human capability in order to prepare students for a lifetime of professional, civic and political efforts to diminish poverty and to enhance human capability.

Pat Cornelius from the Jostens company presented its “National Yearbook Program of Excellence” Award to North Georgia Christian School’s 2012 yearbook, the Equus. “Producing the yearbook was a long, hard process, but it paid off with this award,” said Hannah Kidd, a current junior at NGCS.

Teresa Gruver, high school math instructor at NGCS, enjoyed working with the yearbook staff and was proud of the effort made by the students in her first year as yearbook advisor.

After the presentation, NGCS junior Morgan Johnson said, “A sense of accomplishment flooded our team when we were awarded with the “National Yearbook Program of Excellence.”

Fewer than 2 percent of Jostens 18,000 yearbook partners achieve this award, which is presented to yearbook programs that have achieved defined criteria in each of three categories: creating an inclusive yearbook, generating school engagement, and successfully managing the yearbook creation process.

“Through restless nights and long hours of work, our yearbook staff pressed for excellence,” explained Emily Carroll, another junior who is continuing her work on the yearbook staff this year.
