The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident Monday afternoon in which a woman with a gunshot wound was found in a car.
Gloria Acosta, who lives near the scene on Douglas Drive off Dawsonville Highway, said she found the injured woman, who was flown to an area hospital.
Katy Scales, who also lives nearby, said the woman was still breathing when the helicopter left.
Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks with the sheriff’s office said the office is investigating the incident as a suicide.
The call came in at 1:07 p.m., he said. The woman, a 29-year-old from Commerce, was visiting an acquaintance in the area, he added.
The small blue car was driven off the side of Douglas Drive, a small residential street, and had a flat tire, according to the bystanders.
Acosta said there was a gun in the floorboard.
Damage from a gunshot was visible in the driver’s side window.
