A Gainesville woman and suspected homeless man were indicted Thursday on murder charges in the June death of 25-year-old Devin Anthony Thomas.

Jessie Joe LuJan, who is still at large, and Ashley Nicole Richardson, 23, of Gainesville face charges of malice murder, felony murder, armed robbery and aggravated assault.

Police said in June that Thomas, a day laborer from South Carolina, was found behind a building in the 1000 block of Athens Street at around 6:45 a.m. June 9. He later died at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

The indictment alleges that between June 8 and 9, the two beat Thomas in the head with a piece of concrete block in an effort to steal cash and marijuana from him.

Cpl. Kevin Holbrook with the Gainesville Police Department said Friday that investigators are still searching for LuJan and working with other agencies in that effort, though he could not disclose which agencies.

LuJan is described as a 200-pound, 5-foot-7-inch Hispanic man with dark brown hair and brown eyes and a tattoo of the grim reaper on his left arm.

He has a record of prior arrests for shoplifting in Hall County; records show his last arrest for the crime was six days before Thomas’ death.

Those who may have information about LuJan’s whereabouts can call the Gainesville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 770-534-5254 or the tip line at 770-533-5873.
