The award, given each year at the 134-year-old Women’s College at Brenau to the student with the highest grade point average in the graduating class, was named for a Brenau alumna from Gainesville who had a distinguished career in journalism and public service.

Uys, the daughter of Rudolph and Estine Uys of Gainesville, is an accounting major, and a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority at the university. She never made less than an A grade in any of her courses during her four years at Brenau.

The Goddard School in Buford is gearing up for its annual fall festival, scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 27. Free activities include a cakewalk, face-painting, and hayrides.
