East Hall rallies to beat Chattooga, 28-20

Vergara scores 2 TDs to spark Vikings to victory

POSTED: August 31, 2012 11:05 p.m.

East Hall’s Edward Vergara ran for over 100 yards with two touchdowns for the Vikings in a 28-20 win over Chattooga on Friday in Summerville.

The Vikings started out sluggish, according to head coach Bryan Gray, but were able to comeback behind Vergara’s power running, some strong plays by Xavier Hughey and an interception by Milton Whelchel.

In the first quarter, Chattooga brought back an interception to score on the next play, and after some major turnovers, the Vikings were down 7-0 at the half.

East Hall came out stronger and more focused in the second half, Gray said, and were able to start the third quarter with an 80-yard drive. The Vikings scored in the third and were able to complete the 2-point conversion.

The comeback was complete when East Hall scored two more touchdowns in the fourth to seal a victory.

“We realized we have to compete every single play,” Gray said. “I thought it was an all-around good effort from our team.”
