North Georgia women's soccer opens with 3-0 win

The North Georgia College & State University women’s soccer team defeated the University of Alabama-Huntsville 3-0 in their season opener on Thursday in Huntsville.

Melanie Thompson netted the season’s first goal for the Saints off an assist by Julianna Luther with just 55 seconds remaining in the opening half.

Caroline Wallace and Abby Trevino both scored unassisted goals in the second half for North Georgia.

North Georgia plays host to a four-team, four-game tournament featuring the Saints, Belmont Abbey College, Mount Olive College and the University of West Florida on Saturday and Monday in Dahlonega.

YOUNG HARRIS 3, KING 0: Haley Holderfield scored twice in the second half to lead Young Harris to a win in their season opener on Thursday in Young Harris.

Whitney Thomas also scored for the Mountain Lions, and goalkeeper Taylor Erickson recorded eight saves on the night.

Young Harris will travel to Coker College on Sunday in Hartsville, S.C.
