Your Views: Oil companies take advantage of consumers by raising gas prices

POSTED: August 29, 2012 1:00 a.m.

Wake up people! You want to get a start on fixing the economy, let’s demand that we are no longer subjects of a kingdom run by oil companies. Gas just went up 39 cents in three days. Why? Because the media said it would; because the oil companies wanted it.

Iran threats, hurricane threats, refinery slowdowns, whatever excuse is needed to somehow justify making more profit. And the government is going right along with it, by not allowing more drilling, pipelines from Canada, etc.

I for one, will not buy anything from the local convenience store that is the local leader in raising the prices. Maybe if more people refused to buy their gas, they will quit raising the price so much and so often, since all of the other gas retailers follow their lead.

I am all for free market, but when you have a monopoly situation like we do, and it is taken advantage of the way it is, maybe it is time for some regulations on what they are allowed to do. The president evidently is in line with them, and not for us who have to pay for gas.

Remember, everything we buy has to be handled by a fuel-consuming device. So every time they raise the price of gas, it is multiplied in all the other goods we pay for.

It’s past time to raise our voices unitedly to curb this monopoly and put the big oil companies in line.
