Buford sophomore Bria Bush pitched the defending state champion Lady Wolves (7-0) to an 8-0 win in their home opener against Jefferson Monday night in Buford.
Bush (4-0) pitched all six innings, giving up only one hit and striking out four in a game that was called due to the mercy rule.
Freshman Drew Puckett went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run scored for the Lady Wolves. Niki Cook also went 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI and a pair of stolen bases.
Baylee Sexton was 2 for 3 on the night with an RBI and a run scored, and Jazmin Hawkins went 1 for 2 with two runs scored and a stolen base.
Jefferson’s Emily Dufty had the only hit of the game for the Lady Dragons.
Buford returns to action this weekend with a pair of games starting at 10 a.m. against North Forsyth and Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe at North Georgia College and State University.
LUMPKIN COUNTY 3, FORSYTH CENTRAL 0: Ashley Brown pitched a two-hit shutout for the Lady Indians (6-2) on Monday in Cumming.
Allyson Gentry went 3 for 4 for Lumpkin, who won the silver bracket in the Madison County tournament over the weekend with wins over Franklin County (2-1), Habersham Central (9-0) and Morgan County (5-4).
The Lady Indians take on Stephens County on Tuesday in Toccoa.
Volleyball
The North Georgia Christian Lady Chargers defeated Praise Academy in three sets (25-7, 25-5, and 25-2) on Monday night in Chestnut Mountain.
Jordan Ball had nine aces for North Georgia, Taylor Stewart added five more aces, and Morgan Johnson recorded 11 assists.
The Lady Chargers (1-1) will face Cumberland Christian Academy on Thursday in Marietta.
