New signals aim to help curb traffic in Gainesville

POSTED: July 21, 2008 5:00 a.m.

Two new traffic signals were activated this week in an effort to decrease traffic delays near the interstate on U.S. 129.

At 10 a.m. today, a new traffic signal will be turned on at the intersection of E.E. Butler Avenue and the southbound ramp for Interstate 985

"This signal was installed in response to traffic demands and will facilitate the new dual left turn lanes turning onto the south interstate ramp from E.E. Butler northbound (coming into town)," Gainesville’s traffic engineer Dee Taylor said in a news release.

On Wednesday, a rebuilt traffic signal at the northbound ramp of Exit 22 of I-985 also was activated.

The signals will help accommodate the traffic in the new dual left-turn lanes that the Georgia Department of Transportation added on both ramps at Exit 22.
