The Gwinnett Braves bullpen couldn’t find a rhythm on Thursday in Norfolk, Va. as the Norfolk Tides rallied for a 7-5 win over the G-Braves in the third game of a four-game series.
The G-Braves took an early 3-1 lead after an RBI sacrifice fly by Ernesto Mejia and a solo home runs from both Ruben Gotay and J.C. Boscan but couldn’t hold on to the lead, when a wild throw by Gotay in the fifth inning allowed Norfolk to tie the game 3-3.
Gwinnett was tied with Norfolk 4-4 in the bottom of the eighth with Cole McCurry on the mound, who recorded the first two outs but then walked Norfolk’s Jamie Hoffman, gave up a single to L.J. Hoes, and walked Exposito, loading the bases. McCurry then walked Brandon Waring, allowing Norfolk to take a 5-4 lead before the G-Braves brought Dusty Hughes in from the bullpen, who gave up a two-run single to Steve Tolleson, increasing Norfolk’s lead to 7-4.
Gwinnett scored a run in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Gotay.
The finale of the four-game series is at 7:15 tonight at Harbor Park in Norfolk, Va.
