Gainesville teen charged with child molestation

POSTED: August 10, 2012 11:55 p.m.

A 15-year-old Gainesville teenager has been charged as an adult with aggravated child molestation and burglary.

Daniel Lee Eller is being held at the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center without bond. His next court appearance is Sept. 6.

A news release from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested Eller on July 30 after he broke into a home on Fran Mar Drive through an unlocked window.

The release said Eller, who was intoxicated at the time, was caught in the act of molesting a young girl by the girl’s mother, who had gone into the child’s room to check on her. The mother called for the girl’s father, who confronted Eller and held him until deputies arrived.

Eller was arrested and transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he was treated for minor injuries.

He was initially charged as a juvenile. But at a court hearing on Monday, it was determined that Eller would be charged as an adult.

The incident remains under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

Although Eller is a juvenile, he was identified by authorities under state law that requires the names of juvenile offenders over the age of 13 become public record when they commit certain offenses, such as molestation, and are charged as adults.
