Local golf: Baileys win Royal Lakes Invitational

The team of Randy and Robbie Bailey survived a six-team shootout to win the annual Royal Lakes Invitational on Saturday at Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club in Flowery Branch.

Third flight winners Rush Berry and Jim Hogan came up just short in the shootout, which brought together the top team from each of the six flights.

Other flight winners included the team of Andy Todd and Roger Hall in the second flight, Bud Chandler and Barry Bishop in the fourth flight, Steve Blair and Russell Greenway in the fifth flight and Bryant Strickland and Jimmy Lee in the sixth flight.

CMGA: The Chattahoochee Men’s Golf Association played a three-best-ball, aggregated-net strokes game last Wednesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course. Richard McClure, Bill Sutton, J.B. Johnston and Ben Brooks finished in first place, while Doug Van, Bob Henderson, Don Sorrell and Al Pannell came in second.

Carlyle Cox, Ed Pledger, AJ Kiker and Dave Long took third place, and Buzz Hansen, Denny Momper, Harry Barnett and Roger Miller were fourth. Joe Kolesar, Jim Carroll, Butch Teston and Ron Bachman finished in fifth place. Closest to the pin winners were Jere Cochran (No. 1 and No. 5) and Roy Lyle (No. 12). Sutton and Cochran tied on No. 17.

CLGA: The Chattahoochee Ladies Golf Association played a blind-nine, low-gross, low net on Tuesday.
Mona White won low gross in the first flight and Susan Prather won low net. In the second flight, Nora Gleason won low gross and Ann Toopes won low net.

DOGFIGHT: Tom Bolton, Geoff Archibald, George McMath and Jerry Horton, Eric Awtry and Yoshi tied for first in a two-best ball net match in Wednesday’s dogfight at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

Individually, Yoshi finished in first place with a score of 64, Archibald and Walter Hope tied for second with scores of 70, and Yoko Komoto came in fourth with a 71.

Bob Arendt was fifth with a 73.

DPG: The Dedicated Players Group played matches on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday last week at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

Dave Jetter finished in first place on Monday, Norm Phillips came in second, and Dwight Miller and Justin Pepicelli tied for third. On Tuesday, Phillips took first place, Jerry Shell and Billy Corbin tied for second and Dennis Jones was third.

Shell came in first on Friday, Phillips was second and Jones took third.

ADCOCK ACES: No. 2: David Adcock connected on a hole in one on No. 2 at the Mill Course July 28 at Chicopee Woods.

Adcock was playing with David Ball, Bob Morin and Roger Barton.
