City of Oakwood launches Web site

POSTED: July 17, 2008 5:00 a.m.

The city of Oakwood has joined the electronic universe.

The South Hall city launched a new Web site, its first, on June 25. Now, residents and anyone else interested can check out the town via www.cityofoakwood.net.

"We’re still adding content, but (the site) is good enough now to refer people to it," City Manager Stan Brown said.

The Web site, a year in the making, acknowledges it is a work in progress. "Please check back often," the site states.

The main page of the site features Oakwood’s logo and the motto "Forward Together," as well as pictures of Brown and Assistant City Manager Patti Doss-Luna and longtime Mayor Lamar Scroggs.

Visitors can get general information about the city, including its history, and contact information for its officials in the city manager’s office, planning and development, public works and the police department.

The site also features pictures of the City Council, and users can download meeting agendas. Users also can download applications for variance requests, annexations, rezonings and conditional uses; view development regulations and the city’s comprehensive plan to 2025; and get information about business licenses.

Also, citations can be paid online.

Web visitors can view information about the city’s popular community center and register for swimming lessons at the city pool, which is operated by the YMCA.

The city is developing information to place online about codes, ordinances and public works projects.

Doss-Luna said a lot of effort was put into making the Web site a reality.

"We’re a small city, but we’re a full-service city," she said. "This has been an undertaking, but I think it’s been good for us."

Other cities with boundaries in South Hall — Flowery Branch, Buford and Braselton — already have established Web sites.
