7-year-old boy who drowned Sunday identified

POSTED: July 30, 2012 11:30 p.m.

A 7-year-old boy, identified Monday as Stephon Alston, drowned Sunday in the pool at Centennial Apartments in the Windermere subdivision in South Forsyth County.

Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Karleen Chalker said the boy’s father left the pool briefly to wipe his face off after being pushed in the pool. He returned to find his son at the bottom of the pool.

The father jumped in and pulled the boy out as neighbors called 911. Deputies arrived to find residents performing CPR on the victim. Deputies then took over performing CPR until emergency responders arrived and began trying to revive the victim.

The boy was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth, where he was pronounced dead. Chalker said the area of the pool where the boy was found was between three and five feet deep, and the call came in at 3:01 p.m.

The drowning remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
