Two hurt when truck overturns in crash

POSTED: July 30, 2012 12:11 a.m.

Brandon Cordell Chadwick, 23, of Gainesville, was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center after the truck he was riding in overturned in a Sunday afternoon crash in Gainesville.

A 2004 BMW X5 being driven by Anthony Charles Cook, 28, of Lula was traveling east on Ga. 369 just east of Spring Street and negotiating a curve when his vehicle was hit from behind by a 1999 Ford pickup truck being driven by Peyton Jeffrey Bazzell, 21, of Gainesville, according to Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright.

The pickup truck then crossed the eastbound lanes, struck the curb, traveled into the median, then back across the eastbound lanes, exited the roadway on the south shoulder, struck a power pole, traveled down an embankment while overturning and hit a tree with its right side. The truck then came to rest on its top, Wright said in an email.

Bazzell was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Bazzell has been charged with driving under the influence, serious injury by vehicle, and following too closely.

Cook and a passenger in his vehicle were not injured.
