Steve and Nancy Pettit of Gainesville announce the engagement of their daughter Margaret Allyson Pettit to James
Averette Ham, son of Linda and Chris McCant of Macon, and Darlene Ham and the late Monte Hamof Gray.The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Bill and Ruth Pittman of Gainesville, and the late Jimmy and Marie E. Pettit of Gainesville.

She is a 2002 graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville. She graduated in 2005 from North Georgia College & State University with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. She is pursuing a master’s degree at University of Georgia in social work. She is employed as a case manager at the Department of Human Services in Gainesville.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Arthur and Sarah Vinson of Macon, and Johnny R. Hammock of Macon, and the late Henry Newton and Irma Lee Frame Ham of Macon.

He is a 2001 graduate of Jones County High School in Gray. He graduated in 2007 from Georgia Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He is employed as a field engineer by FM Global in Alpharetta.

The couple plan to wed Oct. 13, 2012, at Ramada Plaza Beach Resort in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
