Your Views: Sales tax should aim at those who use roads most

POSTED: July 26, 2012 1:00 a.m.

We do not need more roads; we need fewer cars.

This can be achieved by staggered work hours, working from home and incentivized car sharing, whereby the passenger who has to go the farthest pays a fee to his or her partner for the gas, time and inconvenience. We need more shared parking lots.

Also those who use cars should pay an extra fuel tax. Grandmothers who drive less than 10 miles per day for food and groceries should not have to pay tax on food and clothing.

Tax beer, wine, liquor and cigarettes, not food, groceries and clothing.
