Some Hall County residents came out to perform their civic duty Saturday in early voting at the Hall County Board of Elections and Voter Registration office.

Early voters could cast their ballots for general primary candidates and other issues on the political table, such as the regional transportation sales tax. Federal, state and county candidates were on the ballots as well.

Charlotte Sosebee, interim elections director in Hall County, said this was the only Saturday voting date held. Those voting on the nonpartisan ballot could vote on the sales tax and judicial candidates only. Party ballots included the tax and judicial candidates as well as candidates for U.S. Congress, the state legislature and county offices. Primary election day is July 31. Early voting will continue through Friday.

Dawn Smith, a Hall County resident and early voter, said Saturday was a much more convenient day for her than the usual Tuesday.

“I’ve usually found the lines to vote are a little shorter during early voting than during the week,” she said.

Smith also liked the fact that “being able to vote on a Saturday means I don’t have to worry about what to make for dinner. On a Tuesday, that’d be in the forefront of my mind.”

Voter B.J. Tomas agreed. Because of his busy work weeks, Tomas liked knowing that he could get his voting done first thing Saturday morning and still have the rest of his weekend ahead of him.

“Saturday is just an all-around easier day to vote, and for me, not voting is not an option,” he said.
