A Flowery Branch woman died and a Gwinnett County man was injured following a head-on collision Friday morning on Ga. 53 near Boling Bridge at the Forsyth-Hall County line.

Annette Woodard, 66, was pronounced dead at the scene just 50 feet from the bridge into Forsyth County.

Woodard was driving a black Cadillac SRX west on the highway when it crossed the center line and collided with a six-wheeled delivery truck at about 9:50 a.m., authorities said. Carl Vest, 56, of Sugar Hill was driving the Cintas Service Transport delivery truck, which caught on fire after it was struck.

Investigator Ron Tomblin with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said the cab of the truck and half of the bed was burned.

Vest was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth where he was treated for burns and released. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and the road was closed until about 2:15 p.m. while officials investigated the accident and the Georgia Department of Transportation replaced a damaged guardrail.

The crash remains under investigation.

Later in the day, two people also were injured in an accident in Hall County at Ga. 365 and Howard Road.

The 4 p.m. wreck involved a Ford Bronco and a Ford Expedition. One of the SUVs was traveling north on Ga. 365 and the other was attempting to make a left-hand turn. Investigators were uncertain which vehicle was turning.

Gainesville police officers are investigating and were not yet clear on Friday night which vehicle was at fault.

“Both drivers were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for evaluation and medical treatment,” Cpl. Kevin Holbrook said.

Holbrook said the injuries were minor. Few other details were available Friday.

A traffic signal is planned for the intersection after multiple fatal wrecks there.
