Braves name new GM

POSTED: October 27, 2007 5:05 a.m.

ATLANTA — In his first move since taking over as general manager of the Atlanta Braves, Frank Wren picked a familiar face as his top assistant.

Bruce Manno, who spent the last six seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, was named assistant general manager of the Braves on Monday.

Wren and the 53-year-old Manno worked together at Baltimore in 1999. Wren spent one season as the Orioles’ GM, with Manno as his assistant.

Manno was St. Louis’ senior director of pro scouting and a special assistant to general manager Walk Jocketty, who was fired after the season, just one year after the Cardinals won the World Series.

"Bruce comes in with a tremendous background in baseball," Wren said in a statement. "He has experience in nearly every facet of baseball operations and will be a great addition to our front office."

Wren was named general manager of the Braves on Oct. 11. He had been the top aide to John Schuerholz, who stepped aside after 17 years to become president of the team
