HCS-TV gives annual awards to prep stars

Representatives from Riverside Military Academy, North Hall and Gainesville got the top places in the North Georgia Video Productions/Hall County Sports Awards for athletes, teams and coaches for the past school year, announced during Thursday evening’s show by hosts R. Garry Glenn and Melissa Beck.

The Trojans won three of the top spots, garnering awards for female athlete and male and female Teams. Cross country and track star Morgan VanGorder won the award for Female Athlete of the Year; while the football team and the girls’ soccer team got the team awards.

VanGorder finished in 10th place at the State Cross County Championships and fifth in the 800-meter run at the State Track Championship, while both football and soccer teams made their respective final fours.
Riverside’s Tersoo Uhaa was the Male Athlete of the Year, while departing coach Jerry Edmondson, who guided the Eagles to their first ever state track championship at Riverside got Male Coach of the Year.

The award for Female Coach of the Year went to Gainesville girls basketball coach, Manson Hill.

Uhaa rushed for more than 1,200 yards after being moved from fullback to tailback while also playing a bruising linebacker for the Eagles during the fall. He was a Times 2nd Team All-County selection; made the GISA All-Star game and signed a football scholarship with Furman. During the winter, as a wrestler he won a State Championship at 189 pounds, and in the spring he helped his track and field team to an overall state championship with an individual state title in the discus, as well as running on the winning 4X100 relay team.
