Former Gainesville High baseball coach Wayne Vickery was inducted into the National Sunbelt Classic Baseball Hall of Fame this year.
Vickery coached the Red Elephants baseball team for 20 years before retiring in 2008, finishing his career with a 470-129 record, five baseball state titles, 12 region championships, and 17 seasons with at least 20 wins.
He was named Region Coach of the Year 12 times, Georgia Coach of the Year five times and was the National Coach of the Year in 2001.
He coached the Georgia All-Stars team that competed in the 2012 Junior Sunbelt Classic Baseball Series.
Vickery was inducted into the Georgia Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006.
