Elliott cruises to win at World Crown 300

POSTED: July 5, 2012 6:19 p.m.

Dawsonville’s Chase Elliott set the fast time in qualifying (16.609 seconds) and went on to win the World Crown 300 on Wednesday at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson.

Elliott’s No. 9 led the field to the green flag and immediately began extending his lead. Many talented drivers had trouble throughout the race early against T.J. Reaid and Stephen Nasse.

Elliott won the first 150-lap segment, earning himself $4,000. The top 15 drivers were inverted for the start of the second segment and Kyle Benjamin grabbed the lead two laps in.

Elliott carefully picked his way through the field and regained the lead on lap 208.

After winning the second segment and another $6,000, Elliott made a final pit stop while the hard-charging Ryan Blaney stayed on the race track and took over the race lead for the start of the final 50-lap segment.

Elliott took the checkered flag, and the final $10,000 for a total of $20,000, ahead of Bubba Pollard, David Ragan, Austin Theriault and Cale Gale.

In the 35-lap Outlaw Late Model feature, Russell Fleeman got an emotional victory in memory of his father, Larry Fleeman, who passed away in May. After Mike Davidson led the field to the green, Jason Bates immediately took over the top spot. Fleeman was up to second by lap three and took over the lead on a restart shortly thereafter. While the pilot of the No. 98 extended his lead to nearly two full seconds before taking the checkered flag,

Bates got back to second with Matthew Wragg, David Murphy and Mike Davidson rounding out the top five.
