Colton Webber of Cleveland was recently honored at Buena Vista University’s student recognition event.

Webber was inducted into Alpha Chi, a national honor society recognizing scholarship in all disciplines, promoting academic achievement and encouraging its members to continue their lives as scholars. Membership is restricted to ten percent of the senior class having a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher and five percent of the junior class having a cumulative grade point average of 3.65 or higher.

Wesley Reed was awarded a scholarship from the Kern Center for Vocational Ministry at Azusa Pacific University. The scholarship is designed for students interested in serving in full-time pastoral ministry who are studying Biblical Studies, Christian Ministries, Theology, or Youth Ministry. Reed is one of 15 students selected to receive this scholarship for the 2012-13 school year.

The High School Scholarship program awards $2,000 scholarships to six graduating Georgia seniors who have demonstrated strong community involvement, as well as solid academic performance throughout their high school careers.

Boone J. Hopkins of Gainesville earned a doctorate in theatre studies and earned a Jack B. Wright Award and Kilty Kane. Forty-nine University of Kansas students received more than 75 awards and scholarships totaling more than $119,000 given by the Department of Theatre.

Flowery Branch High School graduate Rebekah Benton is the 2012 recipient of the Tommy Aaron/Charlie Aaron Foundation Scholarship administered by the North Georgia Community Foundation.

Benton will receive $2,500 from the Tommy Aaron/Charlie Aaron Scholarship Foundation, which was established to provide scholarship aid to deserving and needy graduating high school seniors from Hall County and Gainesville public schools. Benton plans to attend the University of Georgia.

Tommy Aaron, the 1973 Masters Champion and Gainesville native, created the scholarship fund in 2006 in tribute to his father, Charlie, a longtime golf professional.

The North Georgia Community Foundation establishes and manages endowed scholarship funds for individuals and groups that want to financially assist students pursuing advanced education.
