This week: High school teams coming out for passing camp

POSTED: June 24, 2012 9:14 p.m.

The Gainesville/Hall County Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host its 2012 passing camp and lineman challenge at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Johnson High.

The camp will have 7-on-7 drills and will feature teams from across Hall County. All Hall County schools except Flowery Branch, North Hall and Riverside Military Academy are expected to attend. Gilmer, Commerce and North Forsyth will also be attending.

AMATEUR GOLF TOURNEY AT CHATEAU ELAN: The Hurricane Collegiate Amateur Tour makes a stop at Chateau Elan Golf Club for the third event in a four-tournament series beginning Wednesday. The tour is open to players between the ages of 18-23 years old, and no tour membership is required.

The tournament will feature 54 holes of stroke play, with 36 of those coming on the first day. The tournament will include one men’s and one women’s division.

ATLANTA BRAVES: The Braves, trying to string together some wins after a tough first half to the month of June, will begin a homestand this week with a series against the Arizona Diamondbacks and the division-leading Washington Nationals.

Atlanta will have an off day today, but will get the first series under way at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Its series against Washington will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Jair Jurrjens, who gave the Braves a much-needed boost in a 4-1 win over the Red Sox last Friday in his first game back from Triple-A Gwinnett, is scheduled to pitch the third game of the series against Arizona.

The Braves currently sit four games out of first place.

GWINNETT BRAVES: The G-Braves, mired in a weeklong slump, try to right the ship this week on the road. They will finish their series with Syracuse tonight before traveling to take on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.

They close out the week on Saturday at home against Charlotte.
