The Braves are ready to tackle a three-game series in the Big Apple starting today. But, this time, it isn’t against the Mets. Instead, Atlanta is playing an Interleague series against the Yankees. Last week, these two played in Atlanta with the Yankees leaving with a three-game sweep.
Tonight Mike Minor (3-4, 6.01 ERA) will take the mound for Atlanta. Last week, he was sharp against the Yankees, allowing only one run over 7 1/3 innings. Pitching for New York is CC Sabathia, who allowed four runs and 10 hits against the Braves last week, but still picked up the victory.
On Tuesday, Tim Hudson (4-3, 3.90) will pick back up and try to get back to his form from June 5 when he threw a shutout against Florida, despite a sore ankle.
The series concludes on Wednesday with Tommy Hanson (7-4, 3.32) taking the mound. He’s won two of his last three outings, and has allowed two-or-fewer runs in eight of his past nine starts.
In his last appearance last Friday, Hanson allowed a season-high six walks against the Orioles and took a no-decision.
After a day off on Thursday, the Braves wrap up the week with three games against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Atlanta’s next series against a division opponent is against the Washington Nationals starting on June 29.
GWINNETT BRAVES: It’s been a rough month so far for the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The G-Braves can try to turn things around with a four-game home stand starting tonight against the Indianapolis Indians at Coolray Field. Even though Gwinnett hasn’t won a series this month, they are still just four games back of first-place Charlotte in the International League’s Southern Division.
Gwinnett has a six-game cushion over third-place Norfolk.
