Your Views: Pants factory site should be preserved

POSTED: June 14, 2012 1:00 a.m.

I agree with Garland Reynolds that the old Cooper Pants site should be looked into further before completion of the city’s project.

I was at the dedication of the plaque on the square for the 75th anniversary of the ’36 tornado, and I took the self-guided tour of notable places affected by the disaster. I could not help but feel deeply grieved at the pants factory site. To me, this was like standing at a grave.

After the tornado, construction and renewal of this site could have covered up the remains of these unfortunate victims. I see the events at this place to be a “tragedy within a tragedy.”

We may never know the names of these poor people, but I think they should be given the respect and the rest they deserve.
